Surfing Towels: Happy Faced Hacks For Maximum Usage

Recently invested your hard earned doll hairs into a brand-spanking-new surf towel? Well done you.

A microfiber, eco-friendly surfing towel is a must-have for any avid surfer, providing quick drying and sand-repelling properties. But what can you do to make the most of your surf towel and stretch your bucks?

Read on to discover Happy Faced hacks for maximum usage.

Use white vinegar instead of fabric softener (yeah... for realz)

Your parents' old washing techniques were right. DON'T use fabric softener on your surf towel.

Fabric softeners contain oils that reduce the absorbency of your towel, meaning you'll be drying off with a damp and sand-covered towel after every use.

Instead, opt for white vinegar during the rinse cycle to help remove any leftover residue and maintain the absorbency of your towel.

Never store your surfing towel while it's still wet

Ever found a stray banana or misplaced sandwich stuffed at the bottom of your backpack? It looks like a Dr. Seuss character, right?

Mold and mildew don't discriminate when it comes to towels. Even a premium beach towel that's soft, lightweight and practical for surfers can fall victim to unwanted odors and stains if left damp for too long.

To avoid this, always make sure your towel is completely dry before storing it away. And when we say storing it away, the boot of your vehicle doesn't count.

Take it out of your vehicle, shake the sand off (to be nice to the next person you carpool with), and hang it up to dry as soon as possible.

The perfect surf towel takes time

New blankets, pillow cases, towels and ponchos are ALL the same.

While they don't feel super duper soft and fluffy at first, trust us... your Happy Faced beach towels get better the more you use them. It only takes a few uses and washes for the microfibers to break in, revealing their true potential.

So don't give up on your towel after just one use. Give it time and you'll see just how amazing it can be.

Whip it good

Sand is great at sticking to things. And unfortunately, beach towels are no exception.

One of the low-key most epic things about Happy Faced surf towels is that they don't hold onto sand. But sometimes, especially after a long day of shredding waves, there may be some stubborn grains clinging on for dear life.

To get rid of them, simply hold your anti-sand surf towel by the ends and shake it back and forth. Whipping is OK for more stubborn grains, but keep in mind that whipping the towel like you're in the school gym changing rooms again can cause the towel to wear down faster.

Shake it out post-session and enjoy a sand-free towel for your next surf sesh!

Roll, don't fold

The topic of rolling versus folding when it comes to storing towels, ponchos, blankets or any fabric product is a hotly debated one.

But when it comes to surf towels, rolling is the way to go. Folding can create creases and wrinkles in towels that can be difficult to lose completely, especially if your towel has been sitting in storage for a while.

Rolling a towel is easier, faster and more practical when it comes to storage space, and because surf towels are often used on-the-go, it's great to be able to quickly roll and pack them away for your next adventure.

Air dry is the way to go

Love returning from the surf to a fresh, soft and fluffy towel? Of course you do!

But if you want to maintain the quality of your surf towel for as long as possible, avoid using a tumble dryer. Air drying is the best way to preserve the microfiber material and prevent any shrinkage or damage.

Hang it over your side mirrors, over the back of your beach chair or over a branch.

Exposure to the sun is alright, but catching the breeze is the most effective way to dry your towel and maintain the integrity of its cool artist designed patterns.

Alternate your towels for easy drying

Are you the type of surfer with two wetsuits, two pairs of booties and two surfboards for different sessions? We've made Happy Faced towel prices reasonable so you can double down on surf towels too!

In saying that, they dry so quickly it's not like two are essential. However, if you're surfing during winter and there isn't much sun or wind, it can be handy to have an extra towel on hand.

By alternating between two towels, you'll always have a dry one ready for your next surf session. No more struggling with a damp and sandy towel!
