QUICK ANSWER

What makes a good gym towel?

A good gym towel should absorb sweat, dry quickly, feel comfortable, fit easily in your bag, and be large enough for the job without becoming another piece of luggage.

For most workouts, you don't need a bath towel. You need something you can grab between sets, wipe your face and hands with, throw over your shoulder, wash regularly, and actually remember to bring.

That's why Small is our usual gym pick. Medium gives you more coverage if your workout, locker room, sauna, or post-training routine requires more rectangle.

  • Absorbs sweat from your face, hands, neck, and body
  • Helps keep sweaty hands from becoming part of the workout
  • Packs easily into a normal gym bag
  • Dries faster than a thick traditional cotton towel
  • Comes in different sizes depending on whether you're training, showering, or doing both

WHY BRING YOUR OWN?

Because nobody wants to meet the sweat gremlin.

You've seen one. No towel. No plan. Just a damp human outline left on the bench like evidence from a low-budget crime scene.

Bringing your own workout towel is a small bit of gym gear that makes training more comfortable and makes you slightly nicer to share a building with.

Sweat Control

Face, hands, neck, arms, forehead. Get the sweat before the sweat begins making executive decisions.

Better Grip

Dry hands are generally more useful than wet ones when you're holding bars, handles, dumbbells, kettlebells, or your remaining dignity.

Quick Dry

Lightweight microfiber dries faster than a bulky cotton bath towel, which matters when it spends half its life traveling inside a gym bag.

Packs Small

Your shoes, headphones, bottle, straps, wraps, clothes, supplements, and emergency snacks have already claimed enough territory.

Wash. Repeat.

Built for people who actually train, sweat, wash their gear, then inexplicably return and do the whole thing again.

Looks Less Depressing

Artist-designed by real humans because your gym already contains enough black rubber, gray machines, fluorescent lighting, and motivational suffering.

WHAT IT'S ACTUALLY FOR

One towel. Several varieties of self-inflicted sweating.

01

Strength Training

Face, hands, neck, benches, rest periods, and pretending the next set won't be as bad.

02

Cardio + HIIT

Running, rowing, bikes, circuits, stairs, and whatever machine was invented specifically to ruin your shirt.

03

Classes + Sports

Spin, boxing, group training, court sports, outdoor workouts, and organized sweating with witnesses.

04

Locker Room Life

Post-workout cleanup, sauna sessions, showers, wet hair, and making the transition back into civilian society.

DEPARTMENT OF BASIC GYM DECENCY

Your towel is for you. The spray is for the machine.

Your personal towel should mainly manage your sweat. Use the gym's disinfectant, paper towels, or disposable wipes to clean shared equipment unless your gym specifically tells you otherwise.

Using the same towel on your face and then wiping down twelve communal machines is not the hygiene breakthrough humanity has been waiting for.

GOOD HUMAN Towel = Your Sweat

Face, hands, neck, body, and whatever part of you is currently producing weather.

ALSO GOOD Disinfectant = Equipment

Follow your gym's cleaning instructions and leave shared gear ready for the next person.

PICK YOUR GYM TOWEL

How much towel does your workout actually need?

Bigger is not automatically better. If all you're doing is wiping sweat between sets, carrying six feet of towel around is less fitness gear and more emotional support blanket.

THE EASY ANSWER

Start with Small.

If you want one towel mainly for the actual workout, Small is the cleanest answer. It's useful enough to do the job and compact enough to live permanently in your gym rotation.

Want more coverage or use the locker room a lot? Go Medium. Shower at the gym? Consider bringing a separate larger clean towel instead of asking the towel you just sweated into for an encore.

MICROFIBER VS. COTTON

Your bath towel doesn't need a gym membership.

Cotton isn't bad. It's soft, familiar, and excellent when it can live peacefully in a bathroom. A gym towel has a different job: get sweaty, fit in a bag, dry, get washed, and do it again.

THICK COTTON TOWEL
  • Bulkier in a gym bag
  • Gets heavier when saturated
  • Often takes longer to dry
  • More towel than most workouts actually require
  • Excellent if your gym bag has its own zip code
HAPPY FACED GYM TOWEL
  • Lightweight performance microfiber
  • Quick drying
  • Ultra absorbent
  • Easy to keep in a gym bag
  • Original artwork instead of hotel-bathroom energy

THE WILD CARD

We made it for skateboarding. The gym didn't get the memo.

Our 20" × 20" Skate Towel has a built-in N52 neodymium magnet. It was designed to keep a towel easy to grab during skate sessions, but that same idea makes a surprising amount of sense around training.

Keep it with your own bag, rack, or suitable clean metal surface instead of dropping your towel on a gym floor that has seen things no fabric should have to remember.

It's especially good if you want something tiny for hands, face, sweat between sets, climbing gyms, garage workouts, sports, or minimal gym bags.

POST-WORKOUT ADMINISTRATION

Take the damn towel out of the bag.

The workout is over. Your towel's shift is not. Leaving any sweaty towel folded inside a dark gym bag for three days is less "storage" and more "experiment."

01

Remove It

Take the towel out of your bag after training instead of letting it spend the night with your shoes.

02

Let It Breathe

Hang it open in moving air if you aren't washing it immediately.

03

Wash It

Machine wash cold with mild detergent. Skip bleach and fabric softener. Tumble dry low or hang dry.

ARTIST-DESIGNED

Your gym already looks serious enough.

Every Happy Faced towel starts with artwork by a real independent artist. Performance matters. So does making gear people actually like having around. We're capable of sweating and enjoying color at the same time.

Our Default Gym Pick

Small is our go-to for most workouts because it gives you enough towel for sweat management without wasting half your gym bag on towel acreage. Medium is the move when you want more coverage or spend more time in the locker room.

GYM TOWEL FAQ

Questions people ask before sweating into a rectangle.

What kind of towel is best for the gym?
A good gym towel should be absorbent, lightweight, compact, comfortable, and quick drying. Microfiber works well because it packs smaller and generally dries faster than a thick traditional cotton bath towel.
What size towel is best for the gym?
Small is our preferred size for most workouts because the 40" × 20" size is easy to carry while giving you plenty of towel for your face, hands, neck, and sweat between sets. Medium is better if you want more coverage, and Large makes more sense for showers or full-body drying.
Why should I bring my own gym towel?
Bringing your own towel gives you something dedicated to managing your sweat, keeping your hands and face comfortable, and avoiding leaving your own sweat behind on shared workout surfaces.
Should I use my gym towel to clean machines?
Use your personal towel mainly for your body. Clean shared gym equipment with the disinfectant spray, paper towels, or disposable wipes supplied by the gym, and follow whatever cleaning instructions your gym has posted.
Are microfiber towels good for workouts?
Yes. Microfiber makes sense for workouts because it is absorbent, lightweight, compact, and quick drying. That makes it easier to carry in a gym bag and easier to dry between uses than many thick cotton towels.
Can I use the same towel for my workout and shower?
You can, but a separate clean shower towel is usually more comfortable. Your workout towel may already be damp with sweat and may be smaller than what you want for drying your whole body.
Where should I keep my towel while I'm working out?
Keep it over your shoulder, with your personal bag or equipment, on a designated towel hook or rack, or attached to your own suitable gear. Avoid dropping it on the floor or draping it across equipment you are not using.
How often should I wash my gym towel?
Wash your towel after sweaty workouts or as soon as practical. At minimum, remove it from your gym bag after training and hang it open so it can dry rather than leaving it damp and folded.
Can Happy Faced Skate Towels be used at the gym?
Yep. They were originally designed for skateboarding, but their compact 20" × 20" size, quick-dry microfiber, and built-in N52 magnet also make them useful for sweat, hands, quick-access gym use, sports, climbing gyms, and minimal workout bags.

FINAL SET

Your workout can be messy. Your gym bag doesn't have to be.
